Your Host

Kristi Curry

Kristi Curry, Owner of Survivorship Now
Not only is she a top notch planner, she is your host for the breakfast.    It is no secret that it is getting more and more complicated  for survivors when a loved one passes away.     The best insurance to prepare for a smooth transition is to have a plan in place when the time comes.   Kristi has built a business working with clients to create comprehensive, custom survivorship plans.  She will share some of the key components of a plan with you so you can get started on a plan for you or your parents.

 Invited Speakers

Tom Arbuckle

Tom Arbuckle, AMBIS (Austin Memorial and Burial Information Society)
The funeral industry is an $11 billion a year industry and growing.    Planning a funeral or memorial service can be confusing, costly, and frankly traumatic, at the time of death. Tom is on the Board of Directors of AMBIS, a non-profit organization of area residents who help our local citizens make funeral and memorial decisions that are dignified, meaningful and affordable.  He will be opening our eyes to the common challenges families such as options for funerals, managing costs, understanding your rights as a consumer and exposing you to this valuable resource available to help with end-of-life issues.   The gist of his presentation?   Educate yourself and "shop before you drop."

Mike Okrent

Mike O'Krent, Owner of Life Stories Alive
Will?  Check.  Legal Power of attorney?  Check.  Medical Power of Attorney?  Check.   Don't forget your loved one's story!   Take steps to capture personal stories and memories that become priceless before someone you love passes away and it's too late. Mike is going to share with you some great information on how to capture the memories before they are gone.  If this is something you have been thinking about doing, you don't want to miss his presentation!

Glenda Overfelt

Glenda and Kristel Overfelt, Co-owners of Whimsey Appraisals
It's way more than telling you how much your things are worth.    Glenda and Kristel are going to provide insight into the world of "valuing your stuff.''  Things like why you need to know values of items, reasons to use a credentialed appraiser, what to look for in a professional appraisal report, the "appraisers rule of thumb" and so much more!

Kelly Kocurek

Kelly Kocurek, Attorney with Dubois, Bryant & Campbell L.L.P
Sometimes understanding the legal aspects of estate planning and probate can be more than challenging.  Kelly will review the basic principles of a will, estate planning and probate in Texas.  He will also shed some light on the recent changes in the federal estate tax law.  Bring your questions! There will be an estate planning Q&A to follow presentation.

Bill Thompson

Bill Thompson, Owner of Downsizing Estates
One of the biggest challenges families have is dealing with a loved one's property after they have passed away.    Bill is going to share with you the mechanics of an estate sale, some of the emotional components you may not expect to have and what to look for when hiring a company to liquidate the remaining items not wanted by the survivors.
